Michael Jackson (bishop)

Michael Geoffrey St Aubyn Jackson (born 24 May 1956) is the Church of Ireland Archbishop of Dublin since 2011.

Early life and family

Jackson was born in Lurgan, County Armagh, Northern Ireland, the son of Church of Ireland rector (latterly appointed Archdeacon of Elphin & Ardagh), and educated at Ballinamallard Primary School and Portora Royal School, Enniskillen. Trinity College, Dublin, before going on to do postgraduate studies at Cambridge University. He is married to Inez Cooke, a medical doctor who was born in County Fermanagh, and they have one daughter, Camilla.

Ecclesiastical career

He was ordained to the Anglican ministry as a deacon in 1986 and a priest in 1987. His first pastoral appointment was as a curate at Zion Parish, Dublin, and lectured at Trinity College, Dublin and the Church of Ireland Theological College (now Institute). His next appointment was as College Chaplain at Christ Church, Oxford, from 1989 to 1997. He returned to Ireland and served as the Incumbent of St Fin Barre's Union and Dean of Cork, from 1997 to 2002. Jackson has held many notable positions in the Church of Ireland, including chairmanship of the Church in Society Committee and, currently, chairmanship of the Board for Social Theology. Jackson also plays an active role in the wider Anglican Communion, especially in the areas of ecumenism and inter-faith dialogue. He was elected Bishop of Clogher by the Church of Ireland House of Bishops on 21 November 2001 and consecrated at St Patrick's Anglican Cathedral, Armagh on 6 March 2002. On 2 February 2011, he was elected Archbishop of Dublin and Bishop of Glendalough, and enthroned at Christ Church Cathedral, Dublin on 8 May 2011, succeeding John Neill.

Michael Jackson (linebacker)

Michael Jackson (born July 15, 1957) is a former professional American football player who played linebacker in eight NFL seasons for the Seattle Seahawks.

Jackson was born in Pasco, Washington. A 1975 graduate of Pasco High School, he has enjoyed greater success and accumulated more career achievements than any other Bulldog. A three-year/three-sport letterman, he was the team captain in both football and baseball while garnering All-State honors and receiving the Denning Award for Outstanding Athlete by the Pasco Jaycees as a senior.

At the University of Washington, Jackson earned four varsity letters and was named to their All-Centennial Football Team. He was also selected as the Inland Empire Amateur Athlete of the Year in 1977, a season in which he helped lead the Huskies to the Rose Bowl. The eyes of the nation were on him during that game as he made a vital end zone interception that helped seal Washington ’s victory over the University of Michigan.

Jackson holds several defensive school records for the Huskies, including single season (210) and career (569) tackles. Among the several honors he received for the U of W include Sports Illustrated Player of the Week (11-12-77), Husky Team Captain (1978), All Pac-8 & Pac-10 Linebacker (1977–78) and several All-American selections.

Michael Jackson (English singer)

Michael Jackson is a UK male singer who was lead vocalist with the heavy metal band Satan/Pariah.

Early life

Michael was born in Lancaster, Lancashire in 1964 to Estelle & Michael Jackson. He was brought up by his mother in Morecambe, Lancashire from an early age. A fanatical Queen fan Michael Jackson dreamed of being a rock singer like his idol Freddie Mercury.

Entering the Merchant Navy straight from school Michael spent 5 years sailing all over the world while singing with the band Rough Edge between assignments. Eventually he decided to answer an advertisement, learned the required songs and travelled to London for his audition with the band Satan. After a successful interview at Clink Studios, Tower Bridge, London Michael moved there to join Satan.

Satan/Pariah

The first recordings Michael did with Satan later became the EP "Into the Future" which was well received by the press, leading to a deal with Steamhammer Records, Germany. In between recordings the band toured Europe, mainly the Netherlands, which culminated in their appearance at the first Dynamo Open Air Festival in 1986. Michael has fond memories of this festival, especially meeting Angelwitch and Laaz Rocket. Satan were later to tour with Angelwitch in 1987. The first full album, "Suspended Sentence" was released in 1987 and toured Europe with Running Wild to promote it.
